Importance of Reading Quran

The Qur’aan is the last revealed word of Allah Almighty that is the primary source of every Muslim’s faith and practice. The Qur’aan is a complete record of the exact words revealed by Allah Almighty through His Angel Jibril to Prophet Muhammad pbuh . This Holy Book comprehends the complete code for the Muslims to live a good, chaste, healthy, abundant and rewarding life in obedience to the commandments of Allah, in this life and the life hereafter. The Qur’aan deals with all the subjects which concern human beings but its basic theme is the relationship between Allah and His creatures. It is the “complete chart of life” for every Muslim, and it is the “whole constitution” of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.  At the same time, it also teaches the guidelines and gives detailed knowledge about society, wisdom, law, human conduct and equitable economic system.

Qur’aan was verbally revealed from Allah to Muhammad pbuh through the angel Jibril, gradually over a period of approximately 23 years when Muhammad pbuh was 40. The Qur’aan was memorized by Prophet Muhammad pbuh and his companions, and shortly after Muhammad’s pbuh death, the Qur’aan was collected by his companions using written Quranic materials and everything that had been memorized of the Quran. The Qur’aan is in every detail the same unique and miraculous text that was revealed to Prophet Muhammad pbuh.  over fourteen centuries ago and not a single word out of its 114 surahs (chapters) has been changed over the centuries.

There are 114 chapters, known as Surahs, in the Qur’aan. Many Muslims read the Qur’aan by dividing it into 30 equal parts, called “Juzz”. The goal of dividing it into 30 equal sections is to try to read one “Juzz” each day, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. Early Muslims used to memorize the Qur’aan to pass it along verbally to the next generation because there were times when printing facility was not there, but memorizing the Qur’aan is not required today as Qur’aan is available in printed form.

The Qur’aan is very necessary for the Muslims in order to follow the right path. The Qur’aan guides the Muslims to live in peace, respect each other and follow the righteous path. Teachings of Qur’aan guide the Muslims that how to pray and please ALLAH. For every Muslim, the importance of Qur’aan cannot be denied. The teachings of Qur’aan are the guidelines for the Muslims to lead a blessed life. Islam is based on certain rules and laws and Qur’aan learning can only demonstrate these laws to the Muslims. Qur’aan and Islam are essential for each other. None of the Muslims can lead his life without reading and understanding this Holy book.  As stated by ALLAH “We have revealed to you the book which clarifies every matter.”

The Holy Qur’aan recitation is a matter of great importance in the life of all Muslims. Consider the verse given below. Allah Almighty has kept great rewards for the people who recite Holy Qur’aan regularly.

“And you are not (engaged) in any affair, nor do you recite concerning it any portion of the Qur’aan, nor do you do any work but We are witnesses over you when you enter into it, and there does not lie concealed from your Lord the weight of an atom in the earth or in the heaven, nor anything less than that nor greater, but it is in a clear book.”   [Surah Yunus 10:61]

Sayyidna Abu Sa’eed Khudri, (Radiy-Allahu Ta’ala Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah pbuh said, “That person who due to excessive recitation of the Qur’aan is not able to make Allah Ta’ala’s Zikr and Du’a, Allah Ta’ala will bestow such a person with more blessings and Nia’mat than even those who make Zikr and Du’a.” (Tirmizi). What better virtue can there be, when Allah Ta’ala takes it upon Himself to bless such people who recite the Qur’aan excessively.
