The Rights of Muslim Husband and Wife in Islam

Islam has given proper rights to each set of individuals in the society. Islam clearly states the rights of the husbands towards their wives and similarly it sets the rights of a wife towards her husband. Online Quran courses do not only focus on the recitation of the Holy Quran but also spread the teachings of Islam covering each and every aspect of life and hereafter. This article is focuses towards the rights of the couples in order to maintain the happiness and peace in their lives.

“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect.” (Ar-Rum, 30:21)

Let me first share the most important rights of a wife according to the teachings of Islam.

Mehr (Dowry)

This concept was introduced by Islam to provide the financial security to the wife. According to the Islamic rules the husband is bound to confirm the amount of money entitled in the name of his wife. This is the mandatory requirement in order to fulfill the marriage rituals. It secures the future of a wife. Also, the concept of Mehr is included in the conditions of marriage in order to eliminate the chances of ‘Talaq’ which is considered to be the least desired solution if the marriage is not successful.

Spending

It is the duty of the husband to fulfill the basic needs of food, dressing and shelter to his wife. He must spend enough money to fulfil these requirements. It is the duty of the husband to earn a livelihood in order to raise his family and the wife should stay at home while taking care of the house in the absence of her husband.

Fair Treatment

Islam encourages the fair treatment and nice behavior towards the wife. The wife has this right that her husband should not treat her with anger, force or in a harsh manner. The husband must treat his wife with respect by giving her complete honor. Basically Islam raises the status of women in the society and these obligations serve this purpose quite well.

Online Quran classes in the USA are devoted to teach the Muslims all these aspects in order to enable them live a well-balanced life. Now, let me share some important rights of the husbands over their wives.

Obedience

Islam asks the wives to obey their husbands as far as the husbands fulfil their duties well enough. A wife should not leave the house without the permission of her husband. Moreover, she must consult with her husband before making any significant decision. It symbolizes the respect for the husband and creates a sense of mutual understanding which is necessary for a successful relationship.

Look After the House

Islam asks the wives to look after the house and keep it well intact. The term ‘House’ does not only mean the property but it also contains the concept of family and children. When we talk about the rights of Muslim husband and wife in Islam, welfare and betterment of the family becomes the most important factor. There are number of other rights as well but these rights mentioned above are the most important aspects in this regard.

Islam is a very peaceful and simple religion and we must avoid any ambiguities which may lead to severe problems in the end. Understanding the clear message of Islam is itself a great virtue.
